Walking around Markham, I was really just wanting some authentic Chinese food. Little did I know, there was a Din Tai Fung! I’m not sure if this is a part of the “real” Din Tai Fung franchise, but the menu definitely mimicked the Official Menu dish for dish.
Only had a light snack here though, but it was quite satisfying after Ottawa’s numerous Westernized Chinese Food.

Steamed Chicken Soup

Steamed Chicken Soup

Soup definitely is a must on a cold Winter’s day on the East Coast. Loved that warm feeling I get from hot soup! The soup had a very rich chicken aroma with tender chicken pieces. A bit oily, but nothing too overwhelming.

Wonton in Chili Sauce

Wonton in Chili Sauce

These were actually my favorite when I went to Din Tai Fung in Taipei and I honestly don’t enjoy spicy food too often. Unfortunately, they just didn’t make it with that certain taste I remember so well from Taipei. This bowl of Wonton in Chili Sauce was too spicy for my liking, and didn’t have that subtle hint of sweetness I was hoping for. It just seemed like all I could taste was the spiciness and nothing close to that distinct flavor I enjoyed so much in Taipei:(.

Xiao Long Bao

Xiao Long Bao

Simply had to order Xiao Long Bao or else I’d feel like I was missing out. The skin of the dumplings were thin and delicate, yet sturdy enough to survive my poor chopstick skills:p. Every dumpling was bursting with soup! After taking a tiny bite off the edge, slurping up the soup is always enjoyable. A rich and flavorful hot liquid really compliments the tender pork filling. Delish! Especially with a dab of vinegar.

Although the food was somewhat enjoyable. I don’t think this would be one of my go-to places for Chinese food. While visiting Toronto, I wouldn’t put this in my “Must-Try” list. I don’t think you’d be missing much if you over looked this Din Tai Fung. But if you’re in the Markham area and you’re hungry, it’s a decent place to have a meal;).
